"Don't Tread on Me"

She’s a little yin, a little yang; a little dark, a little light; a little low, a little bright.

It's the first days of 2026, and I live in Minneapolis. She too is a little yin, a little yang. And she’s pretty dark right now.

Yin can’t be yin without the yang. Yang can’t be yang without the yin. We are so tightly wound to our side, our opinion, that we are blocking the light from the other side.
But I see it. I see people on both sides genuinely believing they are doing what is best for their people and community.

And from that, I painted a small collection of Suns & Moons. I painted with deep sadness, and at times, hope. Hope that we can begin to climb out of this and see the sunshine on the other side.
This particular piece feels the heaviest to me. Perhaps it's the deep color to the moon, maybe it's the tilt that sort of puts it in an unstable position. To me, this canvas really reflects the gravity of what my city is going through, with so much hope for a brighter future. 

8”x10”x1½” acrylic paint and gold oil pen on gallery wrapped, heavy duty canvas. Finished with protective varnish. Edges are painted, and the back is outfitted with a sawtooth hanger, making this piece ready to hang.
