I had been thinking about painting loons for three years. So as long as I have been painting.
Loons are my dear Minnesota’s state bird. I cannot think of a more regal or elegant creature (other than Stevie my Aussie of course). Their lonesome cry is unmatched, their graceful presence a gift to our lakes. They class the place up.
This piece shows off the classic blues and greens of Minnesota with pops of color and deep texture peeking through. "Our Neighbors" reminds me of what it is to be a hospitable, nature loving Minnesotan.
Painting is just shy of 5"x7". White mat takes it up to an even 5"x7"- easy to pop in a frame. Acrylic paint, silver oil pen, and a little chalk pastel on high quality, 140 lb. watercolor paper. Treated with a fixative to secure the chalk in place.
